The Cra Cra
Stop by our Cane Bay Beach Shop and see the Cra Cra. The Cra Cra was hand crafted by the Carib Indians of Dominica.
They worked on this Canoe for over a year and a half.  We asked them to create a reproduction of the canoe that Columbus and the Spanish encountered at Salt River Bay on Thursday Nov. 14, 1493. This beautiful canoe is over
25' long and weighs in at 300lbs! The Carib Indians told us that they believe the Cra Cra to be the largest authentic style Carib dug out in the world. Master canoe builder, Ettiene Charles named the canoe the Cra Cra, after the Carib word for the Ringed Kingfisher. This is a red ,white and blue bird commonly found in inland waterways and estuaries. It is described as being "Huge and commanding; larger than Belted Kingfisher, with rufous belly". Bryan did the finish work on the canoe to resemble all of these attributes. It is our hope and intention to bring light to native arts, and to honor the people who inhabited these islands.
