Salt River Bay National Historical Park & Ecological Preserve St Croix Kayak Tour
At Salt River Bay, US Virgin Islands, Virgin Kayak uses state of the art, Hobie Mirage kayaks. The first full body kayak! Not only are they stable, they take you further, faster, making your tour safer. Hobie kayaks overcome the strong caribbean tradewinds with ease (they can actually leave a wake behind them). This makes it possible to kayak the ENTIRE BAY! They are also very easy to jump on and off while snorkeling the bioluminescent bay! Hobie Mirage kayaks self bail, that means you won't be sitting in a puddle of water. Recumbent, air cushioned, high back seats and a hand operated rudder make this the ultimate ride. Kayaking St Croix doesn't get any better than this!

Salt River Bay Historical and Ecological Daytime tour
This St Croix Kayak tour begins at our shop located at Cane Bay. We meet at 9:00 am in The Caribbean Indigenous Arts and Crafts Museum. Here, you will learn about Pre Columbian life, transportation and art. We have commissioned The Kalinago- Carib canoe master builder Ettiene Charles to build two beautiful dugout canoes for you to see. Your guide, local historian and artist, Bryan Updyke will show you his Taino ceramic reproductions as well as some original pieces. You'll learn about migratory birds, Fort Sale and the Ceremonial Ball and Dance Court. This is a great way to get a feel for the many layers of history and ecology that make up the park. We then trailer 4 miles down Rt 80 to our "put in". We take a few minutes to gear up and give some paddling instruction, and then we're off! We'll take a break halfway through at The Cape of the Arrows, where Bryan gives you a detailed look into that fateful day, when Columbus arrived on these shores. Bryan's personality and wealth of knowledge, concerning The Columbus Story, are what makes this tour stand out. It is like nothing else! This is a good time to have a snack, or take photographs. The remaining two sides of the bay are great places to see the local Green Iguana and the Yellow Warbler. By the time we arrive back at Cane Bay, it's usually around 1:00pm, depending on your group. Perfect time for lunch at one of Cane Bay's great eateries! Take the rest of the afternoon to soak up the sun on the beach, or snorkel our reef. It makes for a wonderful day.

Bioluminescent Bay Tours at Salt River Bay
"Better than Vieques!"
"BEST BIOBAY TOUR in the Caribbean"
The nighttime tour of the bioluminescense is the best in the Caribbean! Here again, the HOBIE MIRAGE KAYAKS light up the bioluminescense like nothing else can. The fins of The Mirage drive system create so much friction and speed, that the entire bottom of the boat glows! Only the HOBIES have this pedal system. Paddles just can't light up the water like the mirage drives do. You will be delighted! We drive to Salt River, from our shop, at dusk and watch the sun set. As the sky changes from blues to purple and pinks, you'll see Egrets come home for the night. Once it gets dark, you'll witness the magical underwater lights! Slide off the kayak and swim in the "Fairy Dust". Watch your body light up like Tinkerbell, as you swim through the water. These tiny single celled organisms, called Dinoflagelates, light up the water when agitated. Our kayaks make it easy to get in and out of the water! Truly a wondrous sight! Please note that certain weeks of the month are not good for viewing the bioluminescence. Check conditions on the Biobay Moon Calendar.
$45.00 per person 5:00pm-8:00pm Bring a towel, and DO NOT wear bugspray, deodorant, perfumes or sunblock, as it kills the bioluminescense.
After the tour, there are several great eateries open for dinner. A great way to end the day!
