Historical    Salt River Bay Historical and Ecological Daytime tour

This tour begins at our shop located at Cane Bay. We meet at 9:00 am in our Taino Museum. Here, you will learn about Pre Columbian life, transportation and art. We have commissioned The Carib canoe master builder Ettiene Charles to build two beautiful dugout canoes for you to see. Your guide, local historian and artist, Bryan Updyke will display his Taino ceramic reproductions as well as some original pieces. You'll learn about migratory birds, Fort Sale and the Ceremonial Ball and Dance Court. This is a great way to get a feel for the many layers of history and ecology that make up the park. We then trailer 4 miles down Rt 80 to our "put in". We take a few minutes to gear up and give some paddling instruction, and then we're off! We'll take a break halfway through at The Cape of the Arrows, where Bryan gives you a detailed look into that fateful day when Columbus arrived on these shores. This is a good time to have a snack, or take photographs. The remaining two sides of the bay are great places to see the local Green Iguana and the Yellow Warbler. By the time we arrive back at Cane Bay, it's usually around 1:00pm, depending on your group. Perfect time for lunch at one of Cane Bay's great eateries! Take the rest of the afternoon to soak up the sun on the beach, or snorkel our reef. It makes for a wonderful day. This tour is $45.00 per person. (No credit cards at this time)

                "Better than Vieques!"

Come to Salt River at dusk and watch the sun set. As the sky changes from blues to purple and pinks, you'll see Egrets come home for the night. Once it gets dark, you'll witness the magical underwater lights! These tiny single celled organisms, called Dinoflagelates, light up the water when agitated. Truly a wondrous sight! Please note that certain weeks of the month are not good for viewing the bioluminescence. Call for the moon calendar.
